The Easter Message of ‘He is Risen’

The Easter Message of ‘He is Risen’

The word ‘Easter’ is derived from the Anglo Saxon ‘Estre’. It was the name of a Norse  Goddess whose festival was celebrated at the time of the vernal equinox – it marked the dawn of a new year, and the end of the season of winter. Over the many Centurys, pagan traditions and various customs down the years have become part of this ancient and special festival. But to the true Christian believer, Easter celebrates Jesus Christ resurrection from the dead, three days after He was executed by crucifixion – an acknowledged event indeed and a sure foundation of our Christian Faith.

Easter message he is risen jesusOh, what a splendid time Easter is, coming in, as it were, on nature’s ‘Spring Tide’ and bringing with it all its life restoring energises. But what does it mean to us? To the secular minded man, it’s just a time of ancient traditions; the painting and rolling of eggs; the gathering of the clans, and a time of leisure activities. But the ‘Easter Message’ that brought Christianity into being is ‘The Lord is Risen’.  There is at Easter, a time of ‘Awakening’ for we see the Lord God renewing his promise of ‘Resurrection Life’ – The sleeping earth awakes! For Easter is an awakening of every living thing. What whispers to the bulb deep in the soil that spring has arrived? What message as it received has it stirs and grows and burst forth its bloom; with its fragrance permeating the room. “And the spring arose on the garden fair, like the spirit of love felt everywhere, and each flower and herb on earths dark breast, rose from the dreams of its wintry rest”. So wrote the poet Shelly.

The promise of Easter is witnessed each year in the Miracle of Spring; in the rising of the sap; in each emerging flower; in the exuberant singing of the birds; in the growning of nature’s green to field and tree. Oh, what a blessed assurance to know that those who are ‘In Christ’ will not only rise again, but will live forever with Him. The Easter Message lives because He lives; it contains life because He is life. What a wonderful reminder to the Saints of God throughout a troubled world that ‘Christ is Alive’. His promise of a better life brings a blessed assurance and an enduring peace of mind; His eternal truths stand out like monuments of hope. With the passing of time its message is as sure as the daily breaking of the dawn.

“Sing my heart, for He has risen, Christ is risen, let the mountains shout for gladness, let the hills break forth and sing; let the seas make known his message, let the stars tell out their story, let the world proclaim His Glory for  ‘He is Lord and He is King’ “.  Author unknown
